Songwriting session for the Ashdon Jazz Academy

The Ashdon Jazz Academy was set up by a Mum (Trisha) who's daughter Ashdon sadly took her own life at the age of 14.  Trisha set this charity up just six months after her daughter’s death and is there to support girls aged 11 -16 years of age.  Trisha said “It’s about giving them other options so they don’t feel hopeless. If I can just reach one girl and stop them from doing that,”

The registered charity matches teenage girls with adult female mentors. These girls may be suffering from depression, feelings of isolation, family break-ups, self-harming, bullying, at risk of exclusion, low self-esteem or be involved in criminality Trisha said: “As a parent, Ashdon told me lots, we had a very good relationship. But they don’t tell you everything. It’s about empowering them [the teenagers] and making them feel happy and confident about themselves.”

Above you can hear the song which was produced by Mike King in just two hours after working with three young ladies from the Ashdon Jazz Academy. These particular girls have spent much of their lives in the care system.  The girls wrote all the words to the song and you can hear just how much heart went into it.
